Cat Rescue: Our Local Animal-Friendly Heroes

Heroes don’t need to be world famous, rich or have superpowers. There are wonderful people in every community who give everything to improve the lives of people, animals or the environment! Dave and I at Share My Pet are passionate about animal welfare. Therefore, we will be writing about local animal-friendly heroes doing incredible things in their communities. If you would like to nominate someone please let us know at help@sharemypet.co.nz.

Today I want to shine the light on one of our local heroes here in Nelson: Chrissie, the founder of Jets Rainbow Rescue for cats.

Chrissie founder of Jets Rainbow Rescue since 2017

About Jets Rainbow Rescue for Cats

Chrissie runs Jets Rainbow Rescue as a non profit private kitten and cat rescue center. Based at her lovely home in Richmond Chrissie welcomes the unloved, unwanted and sick felines in need of care. Her passion involves the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of dumped, feral and unwanted kittens. Her home is a kitty paradise with lots of interactive toys, places to sleep, play and explore.

Anyone who has ever been a responsible pet owner knows that the cost of quality pet food, kitty litter, flea and worm treatment is expensive. The animals in Chrissie’s care receive the medical vet treatment they need to be healthy and Chrissie works hard at her day job at Animates pet store to support her kitties.

You can see the love, care and effort that Chrissie puts into each fur member. It is heartwarming to see how well all the cats and kittens interact, both with each other and with Mila, the resident Mama pooch. Chrissie spends a lot of time socializing the kittens, getting them used to human interactions and household noises. Almost all her kitties are taught to sit, do high-fives and play with soft paws.

When the kittens and adult cats have reached peak health and are ready for their new forever homes they are put up for adoption. All of the cats go to their new homes neutered, deflead, vaccinated and confident in the world around them.

For More Information

If you would like further information, videos and photos of the kittens and cats in her care please visit her Jets Rainbow Rescues Facebook page.

Due to the high costs involved looking after her rescues, any help is welcome. If you would like to donate to her amazing cause, please see the link below. 100% of any donation is put toward improving the health and lives of her rescue cats and kittens.

Chrissie has set up an account at her local vet, Town and Country Vet, located in Richmond, Nelson. To make a direct donation to the vet for any future veterinary costs please donate to the bank number:
