Name

Lani

Type of pet

Dog

Location

Lower Hutt 5010, New Zealand

Lani is a work line from a farm in Hunterville. She has a lovely nature (very cuddly) and is incredibly smart. I didn’t realise there are 2 types of lab, American (work line) and UK (show line).
It’s really clear that Lani needs real mental stimulation and a task to do. She’s just graduated on the ‘Practical Canines’ course through Central Allbreeds. She’s has a handle on basic commands and we are continuing to build teamwork to help her stay focussed. She’s still a big puppy with other dogs (only just turned 1) & can get over excited, but she’s learning to focus more and more.

I feel as a working Mum, I’ve taken on a big responsibility and can see Lani needs more than I can offer her. Ideally she is given a job. Her father was a gun dog (photo of him is the one on a muddy tractor) & Lani definitely notices birds and loves the water. She would be ideally suited to a rural property or with an experienced dog person.

I’m hoping she can be a shared doggie. Lani adores my children and their friends. She has a sunny nature and once she decides you are part of her pack, she’s incredibly affectionate and loyal.

Lani’s routine includes a walk in the afternoon & she usually shuts down around 7 (a good sleeper!), although as she gets older she’s getting more flexi with routines. I don’t have a big area fenced, which isn’t ideal, so daily exercise is essential.

She’s not at a point where just anyone could walk her as there’s much involved in her training (heeling etc) and being a big dog, a small & inexperienced person might find her too much. So it will be great if whoever is involved, can be part of her training plan. I have a long line which has been great.
