I have a 22-year old 16.3-hand standardbred horse, Basil, who is living with a herd of trek horses at Waimak River Riding Centre. I have taken him out into the Southern Alps and to the beach, and he is the most gentle, personable horse, who can equally be a very exciting ride (he is very forward going, to say the least). I am always interested in fellow horse-mad people, who would like to ride him during the week, or even on the weekends, and give him some attention. I ride him with a bareback pad only and in a rope halter, but he does have a saddle for those who prefer having stirrups. He is barefoot and should be ridden in a bitless bridle or rope halter. I am also training him to neck rein and generally listen to voice commands, subtle leg pressure and weight shifts rather than using the reins and would appreciate a gentle but consistent rider to take him out. You will both get more out of it if you are an experienced horse person as he can be a bit of a handful.
