Buźka doesn’t care that you think she’s a dog. She’s calm, loyal, highly intuitive, an effective communicator and a couch potato.
She is a self-regulating, well-adjusted dog who thrives on human connection. She requires very little management and is an affectionate, low-stress companion.
Buźka is a self-elected doorbell and, despite her barking, loves visitors.
She will make your home hers. Hide your socks.
She “talks” to me regularly, usually to tell me she needs to go outside. She might talk to you too.
Stimulation through sniffing new smells or old haunts is the best energy outlet for Buźka so a short walk where she can lead and sniff to her heart’s content is all that’s needed most days. Note: New house smells, and unattended socks, blow her puppy brain!
Food allergies
Buźka is allergic to the proteins in common dog foods. She tolerates venison, goat, salmon and kangaroo. She’s partial to cheese. She’ll tell you she’s allowed chocolate – this is a lie
*She cannot eat beef, chicken, lamb, duck, etc.* The allergic reaction manifests as painful ear infections that take time, care, and expensive vet visits to relieve.
Personality & Communication
Buźka is a deeply companion-focused dog with a calm and gentle nature, although her excitement and love for her favourite people is intense.
She is exceptionally intelligent, picks up easily on spoken language and contextual cues, and responds best to a cooperative approach that works with her natural instincts rather than strict control.
Home Environment & Routine
Companionship Style: She is a quiet and settled presence in the home, most likely to be found lying in the sun or on the couch. She’s an easy-going and devoted companion – she just needs to know she’s not alone (classic Ridgeback quality).
With Children: Buźka is instinctively gentle with children at home, though she has not been raised around them. I recommend short, supervised interactions so that Buźka can be given a quick break if the attention becomes overwhelming. She communicates this need clearly and politely by leaning away and looking at adult humans for help.
Other Pets:
Buźka is an only child. She attended doggy daycare as a puppy but didn’t enjoy so many other dogs in her space as an adult. She didn’t cause any trouble, she just became sad and near impossible to get out of the house on daycare days. She’d probably be fine with another dog but her MO is people and being #1 favourite so I’d make sure the temperament of other dogs didn’t compete.
She could probably comfortably share space with a cat given a calm, planned introduction. She has been within 20 centimetres of ducklings and mother duck, just watching and sniffing, before hiding behind me when mother duck had had enough. Intense cuddles were immediately required for at least 5 minutes along with reassurances that she was a good girl, hadn’t done anything wrong, and was safe from mother ducks.
Note: I feel the need to tell people that Buźka used her three years of puppy schools and dog training to learn how to communicate her requirements, disregarded everything else, and refuses to be a dog.
